Madeline Conley is a senior at Lake Central High School and has been singing ever since fifth grade. She was so excited when she was selected as a finalist for Hoosier STAR because this is the first singing contest in which she has ever taken part. During her middle school and high school years, she has performed in numerous plays and musicals from the Princess and the Pea to Annie and Zombie Prom. She is Lake Central’s publication’s staff Online Editor-in-Chief. Madeline has also been very active in coordinating fundraising for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation by forming Team Elyse in support of her cousin and taking part in their annual CF Walk for the Cure. Since the beginning of her freshman year, she has taken voice lessons at Music of Oz. She feels that this association has completely changed her life by involving her in musical events and nurturing her love for performing. Her musical style has been strongly influenced by jazz and rock bands. After college she plans to pursue music professionally and would like to move to an area with a strong music scene. Madeline would like to thank the people of Hoosier STAR for giving her this fantastic opportunity and her parents, grandparents, and friends. She would especially like to thank her voice teacher, Becky Osborn, for inspiring her and pushing her to realize her full potential.

(9) – La Porte, IN
Abigail Tomblin is a fourth grader at South Central Elementary School. She is thankful for the support system of her parents, Mike and Holly Tomblin and two older sisters in high school and college, who have helped her develop honor roll status in school, a love of basketball and softball teams and her all-around creativity. Last year’s participation in the third grade Softball League Division allowed her to advance to the regional playoffs on her local team. Singing and vocalizing have been a recent discovery and revelation to her family. It shouldn’t have surprised her parents when Abigail asked if it would be possible to sing the National Anthem for one of her sister’s SCHS girl’s basketball games. As a result, Abigail launched into song, performing a cappella before an audience of 300… and the rest is history. This past summer she performed the National Anthem for a Gary Rail Cats baseball game. Country music is her love but show tunes from Frozen, The Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast also keep Abigail vocalizing the scales. She would especially like to thank her family for all their support as she strives for greater achievements in education, athletics and music.
