Becky has a Bachelor of Music Education Degree from Jordan College of Music at Butler University and a Master of Music Education degree from Valparaiso University. Her college studies were highlighted by performing under the batons of both Aaron Copland and Leonard Bernstein.
As a music educator, Becky taught high school choral music, and for 22 years, served as a part-time professor at Purdue University Northwest. In pursuing her passion to teach music, Becky opened Music of Oz Studios in 1995. Her business currently employs 22 instructors, teaching over 250 students, from the Crown Point location. Fifteen of her private students have been finalists and/or winners in the LCSO Hoosier Star competition. She has many former students actively working as music educators, music therapists, and performers on Broadway, in the opera world, and at Disney.
Becky is a published author whose textbook has been used in applied music courses at universities in the US and UK. She also works as a clinician and frequent adjudicator on the district and state levels of ISSMA.
As a choral director she works in both sacred and secular settings. She is the founder and director of the award-winning KV Community Chorus,directs community theatre productions, coaches praise and worship teams, has coached for television, and directs Illumination. Becky is also the piano/keyboard player with the symphony.
Illumination is a vocal ensemble composed of singers who come from Chicago, Rolling Prairie, Lafayette, Michigan City and points in between. Their professions range from college students to college professors and include teachers, a preachers, nurses, and stay-at-home Moms. They have come together to share their love of song and welcome the opportunity to join forces with the LaPorte County Symphony.
Illumination is available to perform for local functions and they have become requested performers of the National Anthem for the South Bend Cubs and Indianapolis Indians.
